Here at Recovery First Ministries, we believe the first step in building a relationship with God is to surrender your life to him. This isn’t something you just say but it requires some work amongst other things. There are people in this world that can recite bible verses and or talk a good game about God BUT it's the actions you do that will truly help you build that 1 on 1 relationship with God. The benefits to your life by doing so will be far beyond your understanding. Here are some things that we have found that will help you learn how to surrender your will over to God.
Surrendering to God isn’t always easy, but it’s a fundamental step in our spiritual journey. We’ve found that it requires a deliberate shift in our mindset, a move towards total dependence on God. This doesn’t mean we become passive; rather, we actively engage in a relationship with God, seeking His will in all aspects of our lives.
Firstly, prayer is crucial. It’s through prayer that we communicate with God, expressing our desires to follow His plan and asking for the strength to let go of our own. Consistent, heartfelt prayer helps align our hearts with God’s purpose, enabling us to surrender more fully.
Reading and meditating on Scripture is another essential step. The Bible is filled with verses that encourage us to trust in God and surrender our lives to Him. By immersing ourselves in these truths, we gradually transform our understanding of what it means to truly surrender.
Furthermore, obedience plays a key role. Obedience might sound demanding, but it’s actually liberating. As we obey God’s commands and follow His guidance, we find freedom from the burdens of trying to control everything ourselves. Isn’t it reassuring to know that we don’t have to figure it all out on our own?
Lastly, we must learn to recognize and abandon our need for control. This might be the toughest part, as it goes against our nature. However, letting go and trusting God’s plan is the essence of surrender. It means believing that God has our best interests at heart, even when things don’t go as we expect.
By embracing prayer, Scripture, obedience, and relinquishing control, we step into a life more fulfilling than anything we could orchestrate on our own.
